Easy Homemade Coconut Chutney Recipe

Coconut chutney is the most traditional chutney consumed in South Indian cuisine. It goes especially with Idli, Vada, and Dosa. It can be made dry or wet and served either as a side dish or as a dip.

Coconut chutney is usually made with freshly grated coconut, but desiccated coconut can also be used.

The main ingredients in a typical coconut chutney are grated coconut, green chili peppers, ginger, cumin seeds, and salt. Other ingredients that may be used include yogurt, tamarind, and coriander leaves.

Ingredients of Coconut Chutney

  • 1 cup fresh Coconut
  • 1 Green Chillies, chopped
  • 2 tbsp Ginger
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 2 tsp Tamarind Pulp or curd
  • 1/2 cup mint leaves

Tempering

  • 1 tsp Coconut Oil
  • 1 sprig of curry Leaves
  • 1tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 pinch Hing

    Instructions For Coconut Chutney

    1. Take fresh coconut, and grate it finely in a mixie jar or in a grater.
    2. Add green chilies, ginger, salt, mint leaves, and tamarind pulp/curd and grind them together to form a paste.
    3. Heat the coconut oil and prepare the tempering.
    4. Add the tempering to the paste and stir well.
    5. Your Coconut Chutney is ready to serve.
