Air Fryer Apple Hand Pies
The apple hand pies remind me of deep-fried, extremely fatty yummy pies that you get at the stores.
Cooking them in the air fryer saves half the calories and leaves you with no guilt feeling.
This is by far the most satisfying snack that I have made in my air fryer to date.
Ingredient
- 4 tbsp butter
- 6 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 2 med Granny Smith apples, diced
- 1 tsp cornstarch
- 2 tsp cold water
- ½ (14 ounce) packaged pastry for 9-inch double-crust pie
- 1 serving cooking spray
- ½ tsbp grapeseed oil
- ¼ cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp milk, or more as needed
Instructions
Add apples, brown sugar, butter, and cinnamon in a non-stick skillet.
Cook on average heat for approximately 5 minutes till apples have softened.
Liquefy cornstarch in cold water. Mix into apple mixture and cook for about 1 minute until sauce thickens.
Remove apple pie filling from heat and place aside to cool while you fix the crust.
Uncover pie crust on a lightly floured surface and roll out somewhat to smooth the dough.
Cut the dough into small rectangles enough so that 2 can fit in your air fryer at one time.
Repeat with leftover crust till you have 8 equal rectangles, re-roll some of the scraps of dough if required.
Wet the outside edges of 4 rectangles with water and put little apple filling in the centre about 1/2-inch from the edges.
Roll out the leftover 4 rectangles so that they are somewhat bigger than the stuffed ones.
Place the other rectangles on the filling; fold the corners to seal. Slice 4 small slits in the tops of the pies.
Spray the basket of an air fryer using oil.
Brush the tops of 2 pies with oil and transfer pies to the air fryer basket utilising a spatula.
Set the basket and fix the temperature to 385° F (195° C). Bake till golden brown, approximately 8 minutes. Transfer pies from the basket and repeat with the remaining 2 pies.
Combine the milk and powdered sugar in a small bowl. Brush and glaze on warm pies and leave to dry. Serve pies warm or at room temperature.
